Crisis in Ukraine: 28 tonnes of medicines and health products sent

The Tulipe association has sent 28 tonnes of medicines and health products to Ukraine since the beginning of the crisis. Other actions to help the population are currently being prepared with partner NGOs.

We have just made a donation of nearly 4 tonnes to Première Urgence Internationale, which arrived at the beginning of the week”, explains Alexandre Laridan, Tulipe’s Director of Operations. Première Urgence Internationale’s base in Lviv, Ukraine, took delivery of the 4 tonnes of health products last weekend. The shipment contained medical kits, some intended for emergency care, others for primary healthcare for children and adults.

Donations to Action Contre la Faim and the French Red Cross

Our teams are now in charge of resupplying the Kostiantynivka base so that it can continue its health activities, which have not ceased since 24 February, as well as our 4 mobile clinics based in Lviv and Dnipro”, explained Thierry Mauricet, Managing Director of Première Urgence Internationale, on 4 April. ” After producing more than 100 kits last Friday, we are preparing further donations, in particular to Action contre la Faim and the French Red Cross”, continued Alexandre Laridan.

Humanitarian aid covers only 50% of medical needs in Ukraine

In Ukraine, which has been at war for six weeks, the humanitarian situation is deteriorating daily: according to the United Nations, almost 12 million displaced people are in need. The UN estimates that humanitarian aid currently covers only 50% of medical needs. So far, up to 90 hospitals have been attacked in Ukraine, which has had and will continue to have a major impact on the capacity to provide treatment over the coming months. This is the biggest refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War. “The main needs are still centred on war medicine, which is the first emergency, even though the needs for chronic diseases are increasing”, emphasises Alexandre Laridan.
