Tulipe is currently taking part in a humanitarian operation. This operation is currently underway in southern Africa, following the disaster caused by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Crisis Centre, which will transport the donation to Beira, Tulipe has transferred 2.5 tonnes of medical products. The aim is to provide a solid base for first aid. This donation is primarily intended for the health authorities, who will distribute the medical products to health centres in the affected regions.
Medicines are a priority
Among the various needs (shelter, drinking water, food), medicines are one of the priorities. The WHO fears a cholera epidemic, which Mozambique already faced in 2017. There are currently 600,000 people in a humanitarian emergency in a region where around 1,000 people have died since the disaster began. Tulipe’s action is part of a global support effort coordinated by the United Nations (UNOCHA). The organisation has estimated that more than €40 million in emergency aid is needed to deal with one of the worst natural disasters to hit southern Africa in years.
