Humanitarian crisis in Syria: Tulipe has just sent 40 m³, representing a donation of 6 tonnes of medical products, to northern Syria. The aim of the donation is to supply the country’s health centres.
These health centres, set up to compensate for the lack of functional hospitals, are located in a region where more than 800,000 refugees are currently living. Most of them are women and children. This is Tulipe’s 3rd supply of medicines to Syria in 2020. Several shipments had already been made at the beginning of the year. Last March, for example, 2.5 tonnes of health products were distributed to northern Syria. The consignments consisted of vital emergency kits, dressings, compresses, medical consumables and equipment for minor and major surgery. Treatments for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease were also donated.
Donation of medical products: an NGO to help the Syrian population
A large part of this donation of medical products will be paid for by the Union des Organisations de Secours et Soins Médicaux(UOSSM) association. For over 7 years, the work of this French NGO has helped to support the population in the face of insecurity and the destruction of the country’s health system. “The day after the outbreak of the conflict in Syria, Syrian and international doctors in France and around the world rose up to help their Syrian colleagues and rescue the victims. Doctors are on the front line of the conflict and hospitals are being destroyed by bombardments. On 7 January 2012, French initiatives by doctors from the Syrian diaspora came together to form a coalition of non-governmental humanitarian and medical organisations, bringing together Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and France. UOSSM was born”, explains UOSSM on its website.
