The Tulipe association has made a donation of strategic importance to the Lebanese Haemophilia Association. The donation, made in partnership with Takeda France, was received in Lebanon on 27 December.
The shipment consists of a large quantity of Advate and Feiba in bottles. The shipment will enable the Lebanese Haemophilia Association to help people suffering from this disease. These treatments are effective in preventing and treating haemorrhagic accidents. These treatments are currently inaccessible in Lebanon due to the dramatic situation in the country. As the Association Libanaise de l’Hémophilie explains, these health products, donated by the Tulipe association and its partner, could help or save hundreds of beneficiaries: ” Thanks to ‘complete treatments’, people with haemophilia can lead normal, healthy lives. On the other hand, people who do not receive the necessary care run the risk of dying at a very young age, or even if they manage to survive, they run the risk of suffering from joint disabilities later in life”.

Haemophilia: 500 cases in Lebanon
Last June, the Ici Beyrouthmedia reported 500 cases in Lebanon of this rare haemorrhagic disease, caused by a lack or absence of coagulation factors. These are factor 8 in the case of haemophilia A and factor 9 in the case of haemophilia B. This condition, which affects “one in 10,000 people” at birth, is characterised by prolonged bleeding following injury or trauma, or spontaneous bleeding without any particular cause. Created in 1992, the Lebanese Association for Haemophilia ” based on voluntary work” is the reference organisation for victims of this serious condition in Lebanon. Since it was founded, the association, which is a member of the World Federation of Haemophilia, has provided comprehensive care and follow-up for 490 patients suffering from haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders, through its care centre, the only one of its kind in the country, by the end of 2021. Activities include diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, education and awareness-raising about the disease, self-treatment support for parents and patients, group workshops, etc.

Regular donations of health equipment to Lebanon
Today, the association and the care centre are suffering from a cruel lack of resources, having been hit hard by the crisis that continues to plague the country. With no support from the state, the association is relying on donations from the World Federation of Haemophilia to get through this difficult phase and continue to carry out its mission for patients, maintaining care at all costs. This year, the Tulipe association also intervened twice on behalf of theOrder of Malta Lebanon. Since the tragic explosion in Beirut in 2020, the pharmaceutical company has intervened regularly to support the country’s population, with regular shipments of medicines and health equipment via the Crisis and Support Centre of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Order of Malta Lebanon and now the Lebanese Haemophilia Association.
