Donation of medicines to NGOs – In September 2021, against the backdrop of an ongoing emergency, the Tulipe association sent 18 emergency medical equipment kits, representing 1.6 tonnes of health products, to Action Contre la Faim working in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The NGO is active in the Djugu and Irumu areas of Ituri province, the scene of ongoing violent clashes between government forces and armed groups. In March 2021, the Population Movement Commission validated the figure of 1,654,212 internally displaced people in Ituri province.
In February 2022, Jean Pierre Lacroix, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, visited the camp for displaced people in Rho, where ACF has been working since December 2021. The humanitarian organisations on the ground took the opportunity to reiterate the urgent need for strong action to help a population that is increasingly exposed to violence and mass migration.

Help for pregnant and breast-feeding women and children under the age of 5
Action Contre la Faim called on Tulipe to distribute medical equipment kits as part of the ACF Nut/Santé project in Drodro (Djugu territory) prior to deployment in Rho. These donations of medicines and health equipment were distributed by the NGO with the aim of reducing morbidity and mortality linked to severe acute malnutrition in children under the age of 5, as well as helping pregnant and breast-feeding women.
860,000 children are expected to suffer from hunger in the DRC in 2022
This particularly vulnerable population has very limited access to healthcare. As ACF points out on its website: ” Djugu territory is in phase 4 of food insecurity, i.e. the emergency stage”. Increased violence during conflicts is one of the main causes of malnutrition and hunger. In 2022, around 860,000 children under the age of 5 are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition in the DRC*. Action contre la Faim has been present in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 1997.
Every year, the organisation reaches around 1.2 million beneficiaries.
