[Humanitarian aid] The Tulipe Association, in collaboration with its partners in the health sector, has generously donated 1.8 tonnes of medical products to the NGO Women of Africa (WOA) for shipment to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the coming weeks.
This humanitarian contribution is crucial at a time when the country is facing major challenges, including inter-community conflict and chronic poverty, as highlighted in the latest OCHA report in December 2023.
An area of operation that is very difficult to access
Women of Africa is overseeing the entire logistical process, from shipping to the distribution of medical supplies from the city of Goma, before distributing them to the various health zones where the NGO is working. This operation is all the more essential in landlocked regions such as Mwenga, in South Kivu, and in the Masisi and Walikale territories, where access to healthcare is particularly difficult.
Humanitarian aid in the DRC: taking action where others fail to act
Moussa Coné, head of WOA’s operations in the region, emphasises the organisation’s commitment to reaching areas where other NGOs do not operate. In partnership with the local health authorities, WOA has set up health zones in these isolated regions, where medicines are distributed in accordance with the protocols established by the provincial health authorities.
Care supervised by a coordinating doctor
The healthcare access programme supported by Tulipe enables WOA to offer quality care, supervised by a coordinating doctor, despite the logistical challenges and difficulties of access. Patricia Djomseu, Executive President of Women of Africa, stresses the importance of this collaboration, pointing out that their action complements that of international NGOs in other regions, ensuring broader and more equitable coverage.
Support for young people demobilised from armed groups
WOA is also actively involved in social reintegration and support programmes for young people demobilised from armed groups, thereby contributing to social stabilisation and the promotion of peace. These initiatives aim to reduce the risk of recidivism by offering training and financial support to encourage the empowerment of these demobilised young people.
About Women of Africa
Operating in France and in 20 African countries, the International Solidarity Organisation (ISO) Women of Africa has been working since 2002 to promote the sustainable development of territories and the autonomy of the populations it supports: women, young people and children. Through project partnerships with local populations, it provides them with tools to help them become self-sufficient by building, hand in hand with them, self-sufficient and self-managed living structures directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the UN.
