The Tulipe association has made a donation of 41 health product kits, representing 1.8 tonnes of medicines, to the NGO Action Contre la Faim (ACF). The donation arrived on site during the week of 19 June 2023 to support ACF’s work in eastern Chad, a border area with Sudan affected by the massive influx of Sudanese refugees fleeing the war.
The war in Sudan began in mid-April 2023 and has so far displaced many people in the countries bordering Sudan, including more than 100,000 in Chad. It all began with clashes on 15 April 2023 in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, and in other states of the country between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. According to the United Nations, the war has displaced some 1,670,000 people internally, while more than 400,000 have fled the country to neighbouring countries.

“The use of Tulipe kits will make it possible to supplement the need for medicines”.
As explained by Action Contre la Faim, one of the few NGOs present on site, “the use of Tulipe kits will make it possible to supplement the need for medicines to treat medical and nutritional emergencies on refugee sites, in health centres and through ACF’s mobile clinics. Thanks to these kits, reproductive health activities such as pre/post natal consultations and deliveries, curative consultations for children under the age of 5 and the systematic treatment of cases of severe acute malnutrition will be provided to refugee populations as quickly as possible.

“A deterioration in the health of children and pregnant and breast-feeding women”.
Following the fact-finding mission carried out by ACF in May 2023, the immediate needs in eastern Chad concern support for local health structures. The lack of resources and medicines means that only the most serious cases can be treated, to the detriment of others. ” The majority of vulnerable people are forced to resort to traditional practices for treatment, which leads to a deterioration in the state of health of children and pregnant and breast-feeding women, thereby increasing the risk of death”. For its part, the Tulipe association is continuing to mobilise, and a donation is due to be made in the region in the near future.
