Medical aid for the Lebanese since 2020
Faced with the institutional, economic and security crisis in Lebanon, the Tulipe association and its member healthcare companies are continuing their support for the Lebanese people. This operation by the Tulipe association and the Crisis and Support Centre is part of a series of initiatives aimed at meeting the needs of NGOs on the ground who are supporting a devastated healthcare system from the ground up. The Tulipe association has thus intensified its efforts to provide essential health products to partner organisations in the field, such as the Ordre de Malte Liban and Amel, which play a crucial role in ensuring access to healthcare for vulnerable populations (Tulipe). Tulipe, through its member companies, has provided several tonnes of health products to Lebanon in recent years. Donations include medicines for a variety of conditions, and are coordinated with the Lebanese Ministry of Health to ensure effective and traceable distribution (Tulipe).
The Order of Malta’s actions and initiatives in Lebanon
TheOrder of Malta Lebanon has had to adapt its operations in response to the bombardments and the difficult living conditions, particularly on the southern border. Its mobile medical units have had to be redeployed and its centres relocated in recent months, and adaptations have also been made to serve displaced populations. The Yaroun medical and social centre, for example, has been temporarily relocated to Rmeich to guarantee the safety of the medical teams and continuity of services. The mobile medical units (MMUs) have also distributed health equipment and trained their staff in psychological first aid. Despite the repeated attacks, the Order of Malta Lebanon’s commitment remains unwavering, offering health, social and agro-humanitarian services and support to the worst affected families.
The situation in Lebanon remains precarious, but thanks to concerted efforts between the French Ministry, Tulipe, the Order of Malta Lebanon and other NGOs, valuable aid continues to be delivered to populations in distress. “The quality medicines provided by Tulipe and its partners to the Order of Malta Lebanon’s entire health network since the start of the multiple crises that have hit the country have made it possible to meet the needs of thousands of patients who have suddenly found themselves in precarious situations, with more than 80% of the population falling into poverty”, emphasises Oumayma Farah of the Order of Malta in Lebanon. International support is crucial to maintain health services and support communities in the face of the current challenges.
